6 Years

6 years ago on Saturday I watched my husband walk for the last time. I will never forget him running up the stairs and then running back down again to give me another kiss goodbye. I went shopping with my mom that day. I remember I was in buckle and I dropped the bags I was carrying and stopped dead. My mom asked me what was wrong and I said "somethings really wrong." In the pit of my stomach I knew it was Lonnie. About 45 min later I received a call from his brother. They had to haul him in the back of the truck through the desert, to the ambulance, and then he called me. He spent the next 4 months in the hospital. The first 3.5 weeks he was literally hanging on by a thread. It was almost daily he would code and all the doctors and nurses in the ICU would be running into his room. You know when your in the hospital and it comes over the intercom "code 2 in room" yep that was Lonnies room quite regularly. I prayed and prayed and prayed, seriously all day long everyday. I sat in the corner of his room and prayed. I told Heavenly Father I would deal with anything as long as he didn't take my husband. And here we are today.
I cant believe its been 6 years. I remember when we were in the hospital another quad came to talk to us. He was 3 years post injury. I remember thinking "3 years of living like this? That sounds hard". I know that sounds horrible but Im just being honest. Now we are 6 years out and I cant believe it.
I could go into great detail of how horrible those 4 months were but really I just want to talk about how wonderful life is. We have been so INCREDIBLY blessed in our life. We have amazing family and friends that have literally made our life possible.
Lonnie and I always talk about how life would be if the accident never happened. What kind of people would we be, what kind of parents would we be. I am not so sure we would be happier. I am grateful for this trial giving us a different perspective on life. It has made us see things so differently. Lots of things just dont matter any more. I am grateful for all of the blessing that have come into our lives because of this. Mostly I am grateful for how we have grown as a couple. We had an amazing relationship before the accident. So amazing that I would always worry some big trial was going to happen because our life was way to blissful(I know Im wierd). We didnt get sent to earth to not be tried. But, I could never describe the depth we have now.
Our boys are already amazing little helpers to their dad. They always say "dads fingers don't work, broken." And yes you better believe they will NEVER ride motorcycles.
Our lives have definately been made possible to cope because of our family. Thank you guys for everything you have done and everything you still do. Words can never describe how grateful we are. We often question why we have been so blessed while so many suffer. Thank you to everyone from the bottom of our hearts. We love you all!
